The Nigerian government has been urged to ‘quickly fix a new date for the National Population and Housing Census, an exercise that was scheduled for last April. The prompt was made by the Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Ulla Muller.

Muller, while revealing this at the formal launch of the 2023 State of the World Population Reports in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, said the outcome of the census will help the West African nation manage its population effectively.

Muller added that getting a date for the Population and Housing Census is the first to create a data that will aid the protection of the rights and choices of women whom the UNFPA said it prioritizes.

Nigeria ranks 6th in world population, with an estimate of 223,804,632. Late last year, the global population was reported to have reached 8 Billion.
