FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has allocated Over N30 billion for the FCT Education Secretariat to renovate and rehabilitate a few schools in the nation’s capital.
The minister has also ordered that schools with seriously damaged infrastructure be given priority, this was announced by Danlami Hayyo, the FCT Secretariat mandate secretary, to reporters in Abuja on Tuesday.
He stated that, the contractors managing the projects were given a deadline of May by the ministry as well.
Dr. Hayyo provided the breakdown, classifying the benefited schools into three groups and stating that the minister had initially sanctioned N13.3b for the restoration of 40 schools.
He adds that the minister also sanctioned an additional N13.1 billion for the reconstruction and repair of 18 schools as part of the All-School Approach model’s first batch.
He stated that the minister sanctioned N4.5 billion for the refurbishment and rehabilitation of four additional schools in the second batch under the model.
Hayyo, who assured that all necessary procurement procedures would be followed, complained that the renovations were massive because the previous administration did not do much in the sector.
“The previous administration neglected the education sector. No meaningful intervention by the previous administration in the education sector of the FCT.
“That is why the huge work is going to be done by the current administration. That is why the minister took education as a serious matter and earmarked about N30 billion,” he said.
