An alliance of more than 10,000 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) indigenous people and civil society organizations held a protest in Abuja , Wednesday to demand the resignation of Nyesom Wike from his position as FCT minister.
“Wike is incompetent and lacks vision” for the Federal Capital Territory, according to the demonstrators who stormed the National Assembly building under the banner of the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability.
The group’s convener, Adamu Matazu, demanded in his speech that the minister look into the issues of land allocations.
“We stand united today to express our displeasure over the direction of the FCT under Wike’s watch,” he declared. Wike’s fallacious actions have put a shadow on the integrity of the Federal Government and undermined President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope initiative, making it a dismal and unsettling development for the FCT to become the focus of controversy.
Because of Wike’s incompetence in a government that claims to restore Nigerians’ hope, we are here today to demand his immediate resignation, an inquiry, and legal action against him as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Men who have what it takes to be leaders must lead their country if it is to instill optimism in its people.
He claims that because Wike failed to enhance his performance in carrying out his responsibilities and has not lived up to the administration of Tinubu, he ought to be removed from office.
“While the Federal Government has been cool-headed and methodical in its reforms and in providing citizens with explanations for the reasoning behind government policies, Wike has been arrogant, spiteful and disrespectful the collective sensibilities of residents of the Federal Capital Territory and Nigerians in general.”
His behaviour is unnecessarily contentious and demeaning, and he has used rude, resentful, and condescending language, giving the impression that Tinubu is intentionally using him to punish people in the FCT,” he said.
Therefore, the coalition urged Tinubu to move decisively to curb down Wike’s excesses.
