Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has launched Lot 1 of a 198km water pipeline project aimed at providing potable water to residents in the Bwari Area Council and surrounding communities. During the unveiling, Wike emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling promises of improved water supply in Abuja.

The project, expected to last 18 months, will significantly enhance access to clean water and reduce reliance on boreholes. Wike noted that 50% of the contract sum has already been approved and disbursed to the contractors, China Geo-engineering Construction Limited.

“This project will provide not less than 1,600 direct jobs,” Wike stated, highlighting the administration’s focus on developing both the city center and satellite towns. The initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure that communities like Ushafa, Jigu, and Kuduru benefit from reliable water sources.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, affirmed that the project will greatly improve the quality of life for residents in the Bwari Area Council.
