Following two days of strong winds that slammed the area twice, Four inhabitants of Takum town in Taraba State have died.
One resident, Mallam Maiwada Takum, stated that the first occurrence happened on Tuesday night and severely damaged buildings, including offices, stores, and homes.
Takum reported that after a period of intense downpour, there was a strong windstorm that persisted for over two hours.
“Many people were trapped and some buildings collapsed due to the devastating impact.” Many residents were hurt by flying debris, including zinc sheets, he added.
Another resident, Yakubu Adamu, described the windstorm as extremely destructive, saying it caused major damage to infrastructure and property in addition to killing people.
He claimed that numerous people had been injured and that three verified deaths had occurred.
“As rescue and recovery efforts continue, the number of casualties and injuries may increase,” he continued.
He demanded that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the state government provide immediate relief to individuals impacted by the windstorm.
Another strong windstorm hit Takum town on Wednesday, resulting in more building damage and numerous injuries.
the windstorm with intense downpour began, immediately after Governor Agbu Kefas visited the town to assess the damage from the earlier windstorm.
It was reported that a number of structures, including private residences, schools, electric poles, and trees, were destroyed by the storm, which hit approximately 2:30 pm on Wednesday.
The governor is having difficulty evaluating the damage that the windstorm produced the day before because of this second occurrence.
The governor visited Takum to assess the damage from the windstorm, according to Mr. Emmanuel Bello, the governor’s senior assistant on media and digital communication.
