A devastating windstorm hit the Mahanga community in the Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Friday night, destroying at least 50 houses. Community leader James Arthur reported the destruction to journalists in Lafia, the state capital, on Saturday.

Arthur urged state governor Abdullahi Sule, local government officials, and the public to provide urgent assistance to the affected area.

“We, the residents of Mahanga community, are reaching out to highlight the severe impact of the windstorm that struck our homes yesterday. The storm has damaged our infrastructure, including schools, leaving many families in urgent need of support,” he said.

He continued, “Over 50 houses were affected, with many roofs blown off and some structures collapsing, leaving numerous households stranded.” The community leader emphasized the need for immediate relief materials, shelter, and general support from the government and citizens.
