Officials say an unknown number of persons remain trapped under the debris. The building, a one-story structure in the Magbon area on the outskirts of Lagos, went down yesterday afternoon.
Experts in the country’s housing sector attribute the frequent collapses seen in Nigeria to substandard building materials and poor monitoring by authorities.
A three-day mourning was declared in the state for victims of the Ikoyi building collapse, which include the owner of the real estate company that was developing the site. After the Ikoyi building collapse, the state authorities set up an independent team to investigate the incident.
