A 33-year-old bricklayer, identified as Taiwo, tragically lost his life after a fence he was erecting around a church in the Alapere area of Lagos State collapsed on him. The incident occurred around 7 PM on Saturday, just as Taiwo was nearing the completion of the structure.
Witnesses reported that the church employed Taiwo for the job, and he was almost finished when the fence fell. Good Samaritans and the property owner quickly rescued him and rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
A community source indicated that Taiwo’s relatives were notified immediately and came to the hospital. Following the incident, one of his relatives reported the situation to the Alapere Police Division around 8:37 PM.
Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, stating that the victim’s elder brother informed authorities that Taiwo had lost consciousness after the fence collapsed. Detectives have since visited the scene and the hospital, documenting the event and transferring the body to a public morgue for autopsy. An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
